Beginning Book Binding

Learn a short history of the creation of books and the basic techniques of book binding. Everyone will learn to use templates, sewing with waxed linen thread, preparing the text block, creating a solid case cover, and putting the text block and cover together to create their very own hand sewn journal. Each student will leave with their very own hand sewn 8 ½ x 5” journal.

Tools needed by Student: boning tool, x-acto knife, ruler, t-square, cutting mat, wax paper, scissors, small clamps, awl, tapestry needle, paper towels. Note: Instructor will have her supplies of all the above for use by those not having all the tools.

Materials provided by Instructor: 80 lb. paper for text block, book board for cover, paper for cover of binding, glue, brushes, etc. Pre-registration is required....classes@shapeart.org
