Hike for the Homeless

SHIPPENSBURG -- The Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter will hold their sixth annual "Hike for the Homeless Pets" from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, May 13, beginning at the First Assembly of God Church, 420 Baltimore Road. To avoid fleas and ticks on the trail, the hike will take participants through the town of Shippensburg. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m., with the hike starting at 10:00, rain or shine. Participants are asked to get sponsors for the hike. The first 30 registrants to collect $30 or more will receive a t-shirt, dog scarf and a goody bag. The top 20 participants to collect $50 or more will take a walk down the prize table. Proceeds will benefit the Second Chance Fund at the shelter. Canine contests will start at approximately 11:30 and will include Best Kisser, Best Talker, Best Trick, Best Costume and Best Owner/Dog Look-a-Like. Sponsorship forms can be downloaded at cvas-pets.org or picked up at any of the following places: CVAS, Shippensburg Township Office or the CVAS thrift stores.
